Our Styles & Inspirations

The most common question clients ask us is “What’s your style?”

It is the hardest question because it is not something we can explain in words.
Though we would prefer to let our images explain themselves, we thought it would be helpful to explain the reasons we do what we do.
The list can go on, but these are the little things that keep us grounded.

Our Approach

Regardless of location and what kind of wedding it is, we always stay true to our core.

Photojournalism

Keep the events real, and seeing the moments unfold itself in front of our eyes.

Meaningful

Meaningful wins beautiful pictures all day.
Pictures are best kept real than manufactured, which is also why we always ask our subjects to keep it natural and just be yourself.

Non-intrusive

Never. We will never ever intrude your event in any ways ie. asking you to pause the tea ceremony.

Being your better eye

Keeping the moment real and true, just better.
Whilst is great to create the most artistic pictures, it is more important to keep in mind that we are doing it for you. Your wedding day is beautiful, your family is lovely just the way it is. We just try to capture them in a better way.

What is simple?

Everyone loves simple. People often ask for simple.
Most of our clients describe our pictures as simple (we love that compliment by the way!).

Simple, to us, is:

  1. Our eyes are drawn to one idea only.

  2. Straightforward

  3. Easy to eyes

Editing

We always say, a great picture needs little to no editing. Editing is simply a way to enhance picture, not change them. We like bright, clean colours, something close to natural but better.

Rather than following trends, we like our pictures to look classic.

Keep it natural

Needless to say, we tend to keep our colours clean and as natural as possible. If it’s green, we will keep it green. Duh.

B&W

Contrary to belief, a good, strong black and white image is hardest to achieve. You may receive some or none for your photo sessions, depending on the lighting situations during the shoot. Why do we make a B&W image? Most of the time it is to enhance a silhouette, tells a more powerful moment or a clearer story. All of us have different ways to do it.

Classics

Look. There are tons of editing styles available on the Internet and there is even a word called ‘instagrammable’ now.
However, trends are often short lived, and we prefer our pictures to last a long time because that is how wedding and family pictures should be. We want our clients to look back at their pictures after twenty years and they still look great hanging up on their walls.

What makes a picture timeless? Keeping the colours and your skin tone as close to natural as possible, but enhanced and even better.

Embracing Traditions

Tradition is a guide and not a jailer.
~ W. Somerset Maugham

We get ask a lot by wedding couples. Must we do this? What is the normal way to do?

We guide based on our experience, but please feel free to plan your unique wedding. It does not matter if you have only 1 march-ins or no march-in at all, and it does not bother us even if you do not have a traditional wedding gown (there are brides who just wore a simple white dress and they look stunning!)

We photograph each wedding uniquely from the other. In the other words, we do not have a template. Do not worry about not having enough pictures if you do not have gatecrash or one less march in. As long you have a great time with your friends and families, there are a lot of opportunities for photos!

Look-at-camera picture

Looking straight at camera kind of picture is not old school at all.

Uncool, maybe, but I guarantee it will be the first picture you will not regret having. It will also be the first picture you will choose to hang on the wall, and the picture that will last for a long time.

family portraiture by kimnshin

Classic Family Portraits

It is absolutely important that you put family portraiture as your priority in your wedding. This is the top of our to-do list at a wedding. We can afford to forgo candid shots but never this. If you are reading this, please make this a must have for your wedding. Family portraits can be done at your home or your wedding venue.

This is not to be mistaken with group shot with family and friends. Family portraiture is usually done in a nice, sometimes planned, location and with immediate family members only. It comes with a series of portraiture with different arrangements of people ie. bride with dad, bride with mum, bride with mum and dad. The list goes on.
